Japanese imports

Auction sheet check by chassis number

See every time a car went through a Japanese auction before you pay for it. Dates and inspector grades are free. The full sheet with the odometer reading, damage map and photos is €6.99.

Free. Chassis number from the export certificate or auction sheet, or the 17-character VIN for European cars sold in Japan.

How it works

  1. 01

    Enter the chassis number

From the export certificate or the seller's listing. VIN works for European cars sold in Japan.

  2. 02

    We search the archive

Every spelling of the number, then the chassis on each sheet preview is read and compared. Under a minute; the page updates by itself.

  3. 03

Read the history, open a sheet if you need it

Dates and grades are free. The full sheet with mileage, damage map and photos is €6.99 per auction, paid by card, no account.

Why the sheet matters more than the advert

An Irish advert for a Japanese import shows the mileage the exporter chose to show. The auction sheet shows the odometer on the day the car was sold in Japan, written by an inspector who does not know the buyer. If the two numbers disagree, you have your answer. The same sheet carries the grade: R means the car was repaired after an accident, 4.5 means a clean car with light marks. Sellers rarely volunteer an R.

A car that appeared at auction twice tells its own story: bought, driven, sold again. Two sheets, two odometer readings, months apart. That is the closest thing to a service history a Japanese import has.

What the grades mean

GradeWhat the inspector meant
S / 6As new, under 10,000 km
5Excellent, very light marks
4.5Good, minor scratches or small dents
4Average, visible marks, no repair
3.5Below average, several dents or scratches
3Poor cosmetics, may need paintwork
RALight accident repair, structure untouched
RAccident repair, structural parts replaced or straightened
***Not running or no grade given: ask why

Then the tax

Once the history checks out, the next number is VRT. The Japanese import calculator reads the same chassis number, finds Revenue’s valuation for that model code and gives the VRT, NOx levy, VAT and customs. Want to see the result first? Open the sample document with a real auction sheet inside.
