Importing from Japan?
Aqua, Prius, Fit, Note - Japanese imports are booming in Ireland. The VRT works the same way, but the car is identified by its Japanese model code (like DAA-NHP10) instead of a UK reg. Our Japanese tool reads it straight from the chassis number or the export certificate.

For passenger cars (category A), VRT is a percentage of the Open Market Selling Price (OMSP) - the value Revenue assigns to the car in Ireland, not the price you paid. The percentage depends on CO2 emissions: from 7% (0-50 g/km WLTP) up to 41% (over 190 g/km). A separate NOx levy is added on top: €5 per mg/km for the first 40 mg, €15 for the next 40, €25 above that.
