Who we are
VRTcalc.ie is operated by Avlas Digital, a sole trader in Ireland (registered business name No. 793798, Companies Registration Office). Address: Park House, The Square, Claremorris, Co. Mayo, F12 HE97, Ireland. The site provides estimates of the taxes and charges involved in importing a vehicle into Ireland. You can reach us any time at hello@vrtcalc.ie.
Independent service
VRTcalc.ie is a private, independent service. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, acting for or connected to Revenue, the NCTS, the Department of Transport or any other public body, and we do not act as a customs agent or tax adviser. Nothing on this site is tax, legal or financial advice.
Estimates only
Every figure on this site is an estimate for information. The amount of Vehicle Registration Tax, VAT and customs duty actually payable is determined solely by Revenue and by Irish customs at registration and import, based on their own assessment of your vehicle. Figures can change if a vehicle is classified differently, if a valuation is revised, or if the law changes. Do not treat any figure here as a guaranteed quotation and always verify before you commit money.
What you buy
We sell digital documents. Prices are shown at checkout in euro and include VAT where it applies. Payment is handled by Stripe; we never see or store your card details. You must be 18 or over to buy.
VRT and taxes breakdown. Prepared for the vehicle and details you submit and delivered instantly as a private web link, on screen and by email; it can be saved as a PDF.
Credits. You can buy one breakdown at a time, or buy credits in advance at a lower price per document. One credit is one breakdown. Credits do not expire. They are held against the email address you paid with, are not transferable, and are not money: they cannot be cashed out or used anywhere else. To spend them you sign in to your account with that same address, using your password or Google. Unused credits you paid for are refundable at the price you paid for them (pro rata to the pack price) - email us and we will send the money back rather than have you sit on credits you do not want. Credits we give away, for example through a dealer invite or a promotion, are free: they cannot be refunded for cash, one invite can be used per account, and an invite code may carry an expiry date, which we tell you when we issue it.
Japanese auction sheet. Inside a purchased breakdown for a Japanese import you may see past auction records for that chassis and an option to buy the auction sheet. The sheet comes from a third-party auction archive, not from us; one purchase opens every sheet in the set of records you selected, and anything else the archive returns with it stays open at no extra charge. Delivery is usually within minutes but can take longer when the archive is slow, and we email you when it is ready. If the archive does not return the sheet of the record you selected, or that sheet carries a chassis number that does not match the vehicle, the charge is refunded automatically. One exception: an entry you added yourself by reading the handwritten number on its preview (marked “Matched by you”) is sold on your own check, and it is not refunded if the opened sheet turns out to show another car; you confirm this before paying. We do not control what an auction sheet says and cannot correct it; it shows the inspector’s grading and notes as recorded on the sale day.
OMSP evidence pack and VRT appeal pack. For a car that is not on Revenue’s calculator, or a car Revenue has already valued, a person prepares two PDF files from the answers and documents you give us: a letter to Revenue (a representation before the NCTS visit, or a section 145 appeal) and an evidence pack with comparable cars, Revenue’s own valuations of the closest models and Tax Appeals Commission decisions. Every pack is checked by a person before it goes out. Delivery is by email, normally the same working day; orders after 6pm or at the weekend go out the next working morning; unusual cars can take up to 3 working days. The pack is evidence and a draft letter. Revenue sets the OMSP and decides the appeal; we do not act for you before Revenue and we do not guarantee a figure.
Promotion codes. When we run a promotion, one code applies per order, it must be entered at checkout and cannot be applied to an earlier purchase. We may end a promotion at any time.
Your account
An account is free and optional; it exists so you can get back to what you paid for. Sign up with an email address and password, or with Google. Keep your password to yourself: anyone who signs in to your account can see your documents and spend your credits. If you think someone else has access, reset the password or email us and we will lock the account while it is sorted out.
Links to other providers
Where we link to a vehicle history provider, that is a separate company: they set the price, deliver the report and handle any problem with it. We may receive a commission for the referral, at no extra cost to you, and links that pay us a commission say so next to the link. We do not control their data and are not responsible for what their report contains or omits.
Cancellation and refunds
The breakdown is digital content delivered immediately. By completing payment you ask us to start delivery straight away and you acknowledge that this ends the statutory 14-day right of withdrawal for that document once it has been delivered. The OMSP and appeal packs are prepared to your order; by ticking the box at checkout you ask us to start straight away, and the right of withdrawal ends when the files are sent. Until then you can cancel by email for a full refund.
A breakdown is calculated from the details you enter: registration or chassis number, mileage, purchase price, import route. Check them before you pay. If you entered the wrong details, the document is still the document you ordered, and the fix is to run a new one with the right details. If the error is on our side - the document fails to arrive, arrives incomplete, or contains a mistake in our data or our calculation - email hello@vrtcalc.ie with your registration and we will either issue a corrected document or refund you in full, your choice. If a document cannot be generated after payment, the charge is refunded automatically, without you having to ask - and if you paid with a credit, the credit goes straight back on your balance. Refunds go back to the card you paid with; we issue them within 14 days and your bank usually shows them within 5 to 10 working days.
OMSP pack (before the NCTS visit), €49. The pack states a range for the car’s value. If Revenue’s figure comes in above the top of that range, we refund the €49. Send us the VRT receipt showing Revenue’s OMSP within 90 days of receiving the pack.
VRT appeal pack, €79. If Revenue’s first-stage decision does not reduce your VRT by at least €79, we refund the €79. Conditions: you sent our letter and evidence to Revenue as delivered, within the two-month deadline, and you send us Revenue’s written decision within 90 days of receiving the pack. The guarantee covers the first-stage appeal to Revenue, not a later appeal to the Tax Appeals Commission. In both cases a refund is also available when we cannot prepare the pack at all, for example because the car cannot be identified from what you gave us; we tell you by email.
Acceptable use
The free calculator is for people, whether you are buying one car or you run a garage. It is protected by fair-use limits. Automated querying, scraping, resale or redistribution of results, and any attempt to bypass those protections, are not permitted. We may pause an account while a payment dispute or suspected abuse is investigated.
Using your documents
A document you buy is yours to use for that vehicle: show it to the seller, your bank, an insurer or the NCTS, print it, keep it. Document links are private to the buyer; please do not publish them. The wording, layout and calculations are ours and may not be resold, republished or built into another product.
Availability
We aim to keep the site up around the clock, but we cannot promise it, and the official valuation data behind the calculator is sometimes unavailable through no fault of ours. When that happens the calculator will say so rather than guess.
Complaints
If something has gone wrong, email hello@vrtcalc.ie and a person will reply, normally within a few working days. If you are a consumer and we cannot sort it out between us, you can contact the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (ccpc.ie).
Liability
We take care to keep rates and calculations current and we correct errors as soon as we learn of them. To the extent permitted by law we accept no liability for decisions taken on the basis of our estimates, including purchase decisions, bids, taxes paid or opportunities missed. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including your rights as a consumer under Irish and EU law.
Changes and governing law
We may update these terms; the version in force is the one published here, and a purchase is governed by the version published when you paid. If any part of these terms turns out to be unenforceable, the rest still applies. These terms are governed by the laws of Ireland; nothing in them takes away rights you have under the Consumer Rights Act 2022 or EU consumer law.
