grade R
The same sheet in English
read from the original; where they differ, the original wins
Grade R: R means the inspector found repaired accident damage. In Japan this is a permanent mark on the car and it cuts the auction price sharply. The repair panel of the sheet lists which parts were straightened.
Panels the inspector says were straightened: Right center pillar corrected; Right rear inside panel corrected; Trunk floor corrected. Ask for close-up photos of these areas and a paint-thickness reading before you commit.

05Useful to know: this model in Japan
What Japan’s transport ministry knows about this model (ZWE219)
4 recall campaigns cover this model code:
- 2025-07-16: Other (electrical device) - In the combination meter, due to insufficient examination of the control program, elements on the circuit board may deteriorate prematurely when the meter operation time becomes long. Therefore, the meter screen may not be displayed when starting the meter, and there is a risk that the speedometer and warning lights cannot be confirmed. (646,376 vehicles)
- 2024-11-21: Computer (control unit) - In the control computer for the brake actuator of hybrid vehicles, due to insufficient examination of the control program, the brake hydraulic pressure may not be adjusted properly during cornering braking. Therefore, the intended braking force may not be temporarily obtained, and the braking stopping distance may be longer than expected. (115,206 vehicles)
- 2024-11-21: Steering linkage mechanism - In the intermediate shaft, due to insufficient examination of the press working process, cracks may occur during the molding of the joint part. Therefore, the cracks may progress and break during the course of use, and in the worst case, there is a risk of losing steering capability. (4,902 vehicles)
- 2023-02-16: Computer (control unit) - In the collision mitigation brake, due to an inappropriate control program, when passing the side of a parked or stopped vehicle queue, a discrepancy may occur in vehicle recognition by the front camera and millimeter-wave radar, causing the system to stop. Therefore, while the system is restarting, the warning light illuminates and there is a risk that the collision mitigation brake will not operate. (196,984 vehicles)
Recall and incident data comes from the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and describes the model code, not this individual car. Translations are automatic. Use it as a list of known weak points to check at inspection.
06Getting the car to Ireland
- Japan side: auction to port, deregistration, agent feeestimate
- €810-€1,110
- RoRo freight to Dublin/Cork (11.3 m³, factory dimensions)estimate
- €970-€2,140
- or: shared 40ft container, per car (3-4 cars per box)estimate
- €950-€1,290
- Irish port fees and clearanceestimate
- €250-€450
- Marine transit insurance (0.5-1.5% of car + freight)estimate
- €50-€160
- Shipping total, Japan to an Irish port
- €2,080-€3,860
The RoRo range spans the public rate tables of 4 Japanese exporters as of 2026-08-31 - indicative, not a quote. RoRo space out of Japan has been tight since the 2026 port congestion, so a shared container often wins on price - ask the agent for both. The freight line in the total uses RoRo.
Next direct sailings, Yokohama to Corkpublished schedule
- Grande Florida - departs 2026-09-16 (in 13 days)Cork 2026-11-15 (~9 wks at sea)
Two ways to ship it
- Direct RoRo to Cork (Grimaldi line) - 11-12 weeks door to port. Next vessel Grande Florida leaves Yokohama 2026-09-16, arrives Cork 2026-11-15. One sailing a month.
- Via Zeebrugge (deep-sea RoRo + CLdN short-sea) - 4-6 weeks door to port. Transshipment option: deep-sea RoRo Japan to Zeebrugge/Bremerhaven (NYK, Wallenius Wilhelmsen, Hoegh and others, sailings roughly weekly across carriers, 25-35 days), then CLdN short-sea to Dublin or Cork (2 sailings a week each, ~2 days). Port dwell at the hub adds days to weeks.
only 1 future Grimaldi sailing(s) left - ask OGMA (sales@ogma.ie) or check their public posts for the next schedule
Where to book
- OGMA (Grimaldi agent, Cork) - Books the direct Yokohama-Cork RoRo line, quotes per car
- Provide Cars - Auction agent: bidding, Japan-side paperwork and shipping
Independent operators, listed for convenience - we hold no stake in your booking and prices are theirs, not ours.
07Timeline to Irish plates - 12-15 weeks
- Day 0-14Japan side: deregistration and move to the port
The agent moves the car from the auction house to the port, deregisters it and files the export declaration. Allow 1-2 weeks. - Day 14Sails on Grande Florida (2026-09-16)
Direct RoRo line Yokohama/Toyohashi to Cork, one departure a month. Miss it and the next vessel is ~4 weeks later. - Day 14-77At sea - about 9 weeks
Published arrival in Cork: 2026-11-15. The via-Zeebrugge route with a weekly deep-sea leg plus the CLdN short-sea hop can be faster - ask a forwarder to compare. - Day 77-84Port clearance in Ireland
Customs declaration (claim the EU-Japan 0% preference for a Japanese-built car), port handling, collection. - Day 80-87Book the NCTS inspection - 7 dayslegal deadline
The clock starts on the day the car arrives in the State. Book at ncts.ie even if the first free slot is weeks away - the booking date is what counts. No-show, a late reschedule or missing documents on the day costs €54.76. - Day 87-105NCTS appointment and VRT payment
Dublin and Cork centres often run 2-3 weeks of queue; smaller centres are faster. Bring the NOx evidence (manufacturer's emissions letter or the type-approval data sheet - Japanese export papers do not show NOx) or Revenue charges the flat maximum. - Day 80-110Register and pay VRT - 30 dayslegal deadline
Registration must be completed within 30 days of arrival. After that Revenue adds 0.1% of the VRT for every day late. - Day 88-108Irish plates - 3 days after registrationlegal deadline
Fit the plates within 3 days of registration, then motor tax at motortax.ie, insurance, and an NCT test if the car is 4 years or older.
Sailing dates come from the carrier's Irish agent and shift by days; everything after arrival is your legal deadline, not ours.
08Paperwork checklist
- Export (deregistration) certificate with a translation - registration is refused without it
- Customs declaration on arrival: always required from Japan, keep the reference
- Claim the EU-Japan EPA preference in the customs declaration: Japanese-built cars pay 0% duty since 1 February 2026 (statement on origin from the exporter, or importer's knowledge - the chassis number proves Japanese build). Skip the claim and customs charges 10%
- NOx evidence from the export certificate: without it Revenue charges the flat maximum
- Auction sheet and JEVIC/inspection certificate from your agent - the only proof of real mileage
- Book NCTS inspection within 7 days of arrival (ncts.ie)
- Bring this report: the statistical code backs a VRT appeal
- Register and pay VRT within 30 days (0.1%/day penalty after)
- NCT is required from 4 years old; a Japanese shaken is not recognised here
- Display Irish plates within 3 days, then motor tax and insurance
Print this page and tick the boxes as you go - every line here has cost someone real money or a wasted NCTS trip.
